e5 fun

In gaming on July 31, 2008 at 3:15 pm

started a bs today. did not play too much as i had to work but it is fun. I love that the lag is not as bad as it would be in e4 with this many people on.
The leveling and drops is amazing and makes it a lot of fun. DPing is great. problem is we are all spending cash on ah pets.
The GMs get an empty card, tame it and then put it in ah
I got a bunch of excommons that way and just bought an angel.
The cow suit is a reward for leveling.

xfire clan rappelz event update

In gaming on July 30, 2008 at 1:36 pm

seems the largest clan is here. join us and get your cloak!

also, if xfire reads your game as epic III and not 4, read this to correct it.

Clan News
IMPORTANT!! Epic 3
Some of you have registered their Rappelz as Rappelz Epic 3, which means the played time does NOT benefit us all.

please do the following.

XFire – Extras – Options… – Games

now search rappelz epic3 in the “installed” list. mark it and set the mode on the top right to “not detect”. confirm that.

now go to the “not installed” list and search for Rappelz Epic 4. Click it and put its mode to “add manually”. Choose the correct Game folder and confirm once more.

now Rappelz Epic 4 should show up in the games list instead of Epic 3. This is really important as it wastes your work, so change it ;)

Information on Epic 5 Beta Test

The scheduled release date for this beta is August 1st, but we are releasing the Client update prior to minimize traffic to the patch server. Players will be able to patch with the launcher below but will not be able to access the beta server until August 1st.

For weeks, players have been asking numerous questions concerning the Epic 5 Beta Test. Now, as promised, are the answers to these questions.

Q: Who is invited to the Epic 5 Beta Test? Where do I sign up?
A: All players who created their gPotato accounts on or before July 26th are eligible for this testing phase. In other words, open beta.

Q: Will I be able to keep the items and characters from this beta?
A: No, there will be no merging or transferring of items or characters from the beta server to the live servers.

Q: Will I have my current characters and items on the Epic 5 beta server?
A: No, all players will start from level 1. However, there is an increase in both Experience and Drop Rates on the Epic 5 beta server.

Q: When will the beta phase end?
A: This beta phase will end on August 11th.

Q: Where should I report bugs I find during testing?
A: Please report any issues, bugs, and etc to our Technical Support Team. RappelzEpic5Bugs@gala-net.com

custom settings

In gaming on July 28, 2008 at 12:20 am

this was posted by ambush_martyr and is reproduced for easy searching and viewing

The Dreaded .opt File!

Most who are not comfortable with tweaking any type of .ini file for games or programs need not fear. This is a simple file that can greatly help you understand how option settings work, and help you determine how to set up your graphics for Rappelz. Rappelz however does not use a .ini file but a .opt file instead. ( In short .opt stands for options)

Find your Rappelz directory (generally in C:\Program Files\GALA-NET\Rappelz_USA) look for the file titled ” rappelz_v1.opt “. Double click the file and a option to choose a program will pop up to open the program. Choose ” Notepad “! You can also go another route by simply changing the extension from .opt to .txt (the extension .txt is assigned to the program Notepad). Remember after you get done with tweaking and saving your work, change the file extension back to .opt!! Dont forget!

Now that you got the file open youll see a number of familiar words used to describe parts fo the options in game. These features are then followed by a number that is used to distinguish low end up to high end. A general rule of thumb is low end starts with a 1, and high end usually ends in a 4 or 5! Heres some examples of what your looking at in the file, and how the number selected enhances, or lowers the games graphic details…..

[RAPPELZ]
GRAPHIC_RESOLUTION_WIDTH=1152
GRAPHIC_RESOLUTION_HEIGHT=864

As you can see the first thing in the list is your resolution. If you know what res you use, or want to use, fill in appropriately as needed.

GRAPHIC_BACKGROUNDDIS=4 <— How far do you want to see the background? 5=full, 0=your area or less.
GRAPHIC_TERRAINDIS=4 <— how far do you want to see terrain? 5=full tilt, 0=your area or less.
GRAPHIC_PROPDIS=4 <— How far do you want to see props? so on and so on.
GRAPHIC_SPEEDDIS=4
GRAPHIC_GRASSDIS=4
GRAPHIC_AVATARDIS=4
GRAPHIC_SHADOWDIS=4

Heres some of the meat of the games graphics settings. You can see I opted for full tilt graphics that include rendering distances of Trees, terrain, props, grass, avatar, shadows and so on!
You do NOT have to use what I have! I have a high end PC that allows me to play games in hi-res and at incredible distances. If you plan to go full tilt make sure you have a Dual Core Processor,at least 1gb of DDR(2) ram or more (more = 1337), and a AGP,PCIe slotted graphics card such as a Nvidia series 6,7,8 with plenty of onboard ram (256,512mb ram). Im currently using a PCIe slotted Nvidia 7600GS 512mb of ram atm, and this is a older card but the PCIe makes a huge difference since its the standard now over AGP. But those with at least a 8xAGP port shouldnt have a problem cranking up Rappelz. Those who dont have, will want to try setting each option and try the game out before setting everything to full on! Those with low end machines will find that using simple shadow, simple water reflect (or none at all), and lowering your terrain dist to at least 1 or 2 will still get a better look from Rappelz but your distance seeing maybe be lowered, but not so much it hinders gameplay. Trial and error here for best results.

Here you will run into options that only offer 2 choices, on or off! This is indicated by 2 numbers, 0 = off, 1 = on! Heres a few examples of these types of options…

GRAPHIC_TOWNLIMIT=0 <— Turn off player sin town, and limit graphics, 0=off, 1=on! this should be set to on for those with low end PCs.

GRAPHIC_RENDERTREE=1
GRAPHIC_RENDERGRASS=1 <— You can opt to turn rendering grass, and trees to on or off. I opted to have them on by placing the number 1 in each spot. those with low end machines leave off if lag persists.

Thats about it for now. Theres only one left and is the most important setting in the .opt file that needs to be changed in order for your settings to be set for good…

GRAPHIC_PRESETOPTION=4 This is more trial and error for me as much as you. I did find that i can create wider draw distances for everything and still maintain no lag in this game. Those with low end PCs and still getting lag, more than likely your PC isnt cutting it even on low levels, or your connection blows. I used to run this game on a really low end machine of 5+ years old, my connection was even screwed up making the lag worse.

So before you complain about the servers ask yourself, Is my PC up to date? Do I get the exact download and upload speeds I pay for through my ISP? Run tests on your speed, and compare the specs for the game to your machine, otherwise you might be sticking your foot in your mouth by blaming the servers as total blame.

I can now see from one end of Laksy sky temple to the other end of it without lag and the place having more than 50+ people in a area at once, plus rendering every tree, blade of grass, people, pets, mounts, shops, trees, structures, efx and more. Ive built a top end PC that can handle just about anything you throw at it, so If im not lagging being able to render 4x farther than most, and no lag, its very well the case its on your end! Good Luck and Game On.

Achievement Shop – Items

In gaming on July 27, 2008 at 1:45 am

Rappelz added a nice feather a few months ago – the achievement shop. Perform things in game and get pchips which can be spent on equipment. For now, achievements are based on leveling, class changes, etc.

The Current Shop Items
No achievements required
50pc = Feather of Summoning
100pc = Creature Ressurection Scroll

Basic Summoner Mastery
Obtain a basic mastery of the Summoner classes by becoming each of the first tier summoner classes.
300pc = Creature Name Change

Basic Mastery
Obtain a basic mastery of the game by becoming each of the first tier classes.
500pc = Stamina Saver (Not Tradeable)

Expert Leveler – Reach level 60.
2000pc = Tamed Orc (Not Tradeable AND character bound)
2000pc = Tamed BluePixie (Not Tradeable AND character bound)
2000pc = Tamed Yeti (Not Tradeable AND character bound)

I *highly* recommend that instead of getting an untradeable and character bound pet you get something that is sellable and sell it and then buy a pet.

The Boss Killing guide

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 7:14 pm

After helping a bunch of lower levels with bosses lately and having problems I wanted to create a small guide that describes what to do and not to do when getting help from higher levels to kill bosses.

Bosses
Most bosses are far more tougher than their level implies. It is quite tough to kill a main or minor dungeon boss with 8 same level characters without high level pets or uber buffs. The bosses to which I refer are mainly the end bosses and the sub-boss. Sometimes the sub-boss is more difficult than the end boss of the dungeon.

Dungeon of Arid Moonlight
Oforia
Abhuva
Lost Mines
Primal
Taranida
Crystal Valley
Crustillino
Likivirus
Palmir Plateau
Soul Seeker
Takin

The first thing to remember is that the high levels are helping you. In return you should help lower levels if you can. It is the nice thing to do. Since they are helping you, make life easier for them. Do not take forever to get to the dungeon, do not go afk unless you say you will, the people who need the quest should do the chipping unless the high levels say otherwise.

The second thing to remember is that you are killing the boss to complete a quest and NOT for experience/jp of the kill. This applies ONLY to the bosses to whom quests are linked – therefore ignore the PP bosses.

Party management

Character selection
People will debate what levels you need but…let us just call it high level.
I recommend a high level dd, a high level tank, and a high level healer. If you are MUCH higher you can just have tank/cleric. “tank” includes a dd. For bosses who fear/stun I recommend having a dd + tank + healer regardless of level unless healer can take aggro.
All others are filler. They can be more high level characters, a huna is nice for buffs, or all people who need the quest
Party strategy
There is more than one way to skin a cat but…
#1 Tank aggroes (takes aggravation or attention of the boss) and others attack except healers just like in a dp. Pluses for this include faster kill speed, more fun for low levels.
#2 – may favorite – let the high levels do all the work. People who need quest take care of ads.
In both cases unless you want your pet to die and possibly get aggro bug, NO PETS attack. The high levels can have their melee pets attack but no pets attack from a distance. People die because of the pet aggro bug – rp attacks then stops then attacks again and Liki breaks tank aggro and goes after the rp, who is next to the low levels, who are next to the healers -> people die.

Lastly, if your high levels suggest something….do it unless it will lead to your death.

How to deal with pet aggro bug.
If the boss breaks aggro and starts going towards the ranged pets/stored pets then everyone recall their pets.
How to deal with infinite health/health bar bug
I have been told that if you keep killing the boss will die but I usually tell everyone to click off, let the tank aggro, then start again. Note that if one person clicks off and others do not then you cannot reclick the boss until all are clicked off and health bar fixes.

Player vs. player and the player kill system

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 4:17 pm

This information was taken from the rappelz reference guide, forums, and my own experience to be reproduced for easy searching and viewing.
Like most online MMORPG games, Rappelz has a player kill system. The rappelz system is a little different, though. I will talk about the nonhardcore servers.
ANY player can attempt to kill ANY other player outside of safe zones. A level 120 character can kill a level 1 character if the level 1 character is off of trainee island.
The player kill system is designed such that you have to toggle your player kill status on and off, or pk mode, in order to attack a player. Exceptions are that you do not need to have pk on when your target has pk on or when your target has a high immorality (non-white name). You get immorality by killing other players and pets who do not have pk on or a high immorality.

pk fest - attempt to pk gm shubei

pk fest - attempt to pk gm shubei

Safe zones include trainee island, towns, auction houses, and laksy anchor. You cannot turn pk on or kill someone in a safe zone.
Immorality System
1. You gain a small amount of immorality points every time you turn on PK.
2. If you kill someone who does not have PK mode on then you will gain a large amount of immorality points.
3. If a player’s name is red then they have a lot of immorality points, if their name is white then they have little or no immorality points.
4. If you kill someone who is more than 10 levels lower than you, then you gain a lot of immorality points.
5. As you gain more and more immorality points you get increasing levels of wrath. Wrath reduces your defense, attack power, and move speed.
6. You lose immorality points by killing monsters of your level and higher. You also lose immorality points by dying.
7. A high amount of immorality points will reduce the amount of exp you gain.
8. You may also increase morality or reduce immorality by donating items to the altar of the goddess.
9. Most servers and guilds and players use the horizon bridge as a safe zone for pking without retribution.

The Abyss

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 4:02 pm

Just a short word on the abyss. I was once in the abyss when I had a virus that hack shield detected. It was quickly remedied.

Please note this information was taken from the rappelz reference guide, forums, and my own experience for easy viewing and searching.

The Abyss
The game has many features to detect possible cheaters. When the game detects something fishy it flags that account and sends them to the Abyss. Players cannot leave the abyss until the flag is removed from their account. Players can request a fix by emailing rappelz@gala-net.com and asking to be removed from the abyss. Any sending to the abyss is investigated to see why someone was sent there – you are not presumed guilty.
Some of the reasons why people get sent to the abyss.
1.

They have old versions of Rappelz files on their computer.

This is the most common reason a legitimate player could get sent to the abyss – usually after a restore of their pc. Remember to always do an uninstall reinstall of rappelz if you do a restore.
2.

Hackshield is not able to run.

Some programs conflict with Hackshield and do not let Hackshield run properly. Inability of hackshield to communicate with the servers or interact with the game cause it to send people to the abyss.
3.

The user has a Trojan type virus or spyware on their computer.

Hackshield might detect these malicious programs as cheat programs and the player will be sent to the abyss.

Equipment 2

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 3:47 pm

This information was gathered from the rappelz reference guide, forums, and personal experience. It was reproduced and written here for easy searching and viewing.

The Equipment Upgrade System
Items can be upgraded in three ways. The equipment’s level can be raised, the equipment’s enchantment can be raised, and soul stones can be socketed into weapons and armor. Upgraded equipment has a higher recommended level than the required level to use the equipment. If you are under the recommended level then the equipment will be slightly weaker and its stats will appear orange. Socketing does not increase the level requirement of your equipment but the effect will not work if you are not at least the same level as the soul stone.
Equipment Level
The equipments level can be upgraded at a blacksmith. Rank 1 equipment can be upgraded to level 5 and Rank 2 and higher equipment can be upgraded to level 10. As your equipment level gets higher it will become more powerful but the cost to upgrade will become more expensive. Remember that upgrades are cheaper in the hidden village. You can only upgrade something that you are wearing.
Enchantment System
Weapons, armor and skill cards can be enchanted. To enchant an item you need to have a cube of the appropriate rank. You enchant the item by putting the item to be enchanted and the appropriate cube into the combination box (found in the inventory) and clicking combine. If the combine is successful then the item will gain +1. If the combination is unsuccessful then the item will be broken. Equipment is fairly safe to upgrade up to +2 but there is a small chance it might fail. As your enchantment level rises your chance to succeed becomes smaller and smaller. Two items that can be very useful in this process are the eProtect and the eRepair which can be found in game from other players or through the Cash Shop.
– eProtect may be added to the combination box to protect your equipment from breaking. It must be used before combining and will be consumed whether the equipment is successfully enchanted or not. Your equipment will NOT lose any previous enchantment it had before failing. (A +7 armor that fails going to +8 will remain +7 if failed with eProtect). Most people use eprotect on going to +4 and beyond for rank 4 and higher equipment.
- eRepair may be combined with an already broken equipment to repair it to its original state. It is combined with a piece of equipment that has failed enchanting (without eProtect). The equipment may not be used if broken without being restored with eRepair. Put the eRepair and the broken equipment in the combination box and press combine to restore it.
Failed equipment enchantments may be disenchanted to recover used cubes. Combine the broken equipment with a Reducing Toolset and an appropriately ranked Reducing Cube.
– Reducing toolset and Reducing cubes may be found at any Merchant.
– Reducing cubes are Ranked and may only be used for reducing equipment of the same rank.
Cubes returned will be approximately 50% of cubes used on the broken equipment rounded down, as well as +/- one cube.
To upgrade skill cards you need to put two skill cards of the same enchantment level into the combination box along with a skill cube. For example if you wanted to create a +3 taming card you would need a skill cube card and two +2 taming cards. There is always a chance for skill cards to fail. An ancient element skill cube will increase your chance of success by 30% but there is no eprotect for cards.
The Socketing System
All equipment has at least two available sockets with the exception of two handed weapons. The two handed weapons act like 2 one handed weapons and thus have 4 sockets. The items used to socket the equipment are called Soul Stones. These items can be found in game as drops from monsters and bosses. SoulCrafters, located at each major city, are the only ones with the ability to socket items. There are 3 rarity levels of stones, each type giving a special character stat attribute. Each piece of equipment cannot have multiple stones that affect the same attribute. E.g. Only one stone that affects agility. Because 2 handed weapons are like 2 one handed weapons, they can have up to 2 of the same effect provided they do use the same stone rarity. Soul Stones are level based. They start at 20 and increase in 20 level increments. The three rarity levels are Basic, Lair, and Epic. Epic stones only drop from dungeon bosses and are very rare.

Equipment

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 3:44 pm

This information was collected from the Rappelz reference guide, personal experience, and other forums to be reproduced for easy searching and viewing.

Rappelz equipment is defined by a few characteristics:
Rank
Rank is defnied by the level need to utilize the item. You can use a rank and all ranks below it once you reach the minimum.

RankLevel Range
Rank I 1 – 19
Rank II 20 – 49
Rank III 50 – 79
Rank IV 80 – 99
Rank V 100 – 119
Rank VI120+

Weapon Types
There are 12 types of weapons in Rappelz.
Each weapon type has Weapon Speed, Physical Attack, and Magical Attack. The faster the weapon is, the more often you can attack. The higher the Physical Attack power is, the more powerful each strike will be. The higher the Magical Attack is the more powerful your spells will be.

Weapon Type Speed Physical Attack Magical Attack
Dagger Extremely Fast Extremely Low Extremely Low
1 Handed Sword Very Fast Very Low None
2 Handed Sword Moderately Slow High None
1 Handed Mace Fast Low Extremely Low
2 Handed Mace Very Slow High Low
2 Handed Axe Very Slow High Extremely Low
Hatchet(1H Axe) Fast Low Extremely Low
Spear Slow Moderate None
Wand(1HStaff) Very Fast Extremely Low Low
2 Handed Staff Slow Very Low Very High
Bow Extremely Slow Extremely High None
Crossbow Slow Low None

Armor Types
Armor can be restricted to race, class, or both. Deva magician armor means you have to be a deva and a magician to wear it.

Jewelry
Characters can wear different types of jewelry – rings, necklaces, and earings. They can have different effects and are ranked as well.
ring

Necklaces are a little more special than other jewelry in that your necklace can have a chaos stone which collects lack. The higher the rank chaos stone the more lack it can hold – 500 per level. Lack can be thought of as magical energy that can be released when a mob dies. You can then sell this lak or trade it for chips. Chips are one-use items that allow you to do more damage. Force chips increase physical attack damage, soul chips increase magical attack damage, and luna chips do both.

How to avoid gettings scammed, etc

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 3:59 am

hi all
I help people new to the game a lot. I have made mistakes in the past.
So I wanted to make a thread with ways to avoid getting scammed/ripped off/etc.

Scamming is when someone abuses the trust of another to gain someone, especially by use of lieing, cheating, bait-and-switch, etc

Ripping someone off is when someone tries to get someone from someone thru a legal trade but abuses the lack of knowledge of the noobie to gain advantage

Most important rules
- if looks too good to be true double check it (shop says all jp free but orc is half price)
-NEVER use a rupee selling site because paying for rupees thru those sites is against the rules and you will end up banned and unable to use the money u spent and the rupees you got
- prices fluctuate over time – take this into account
- prices are based on supply and demand
- NEVER give someone an item for them to “see” it or try it out. you can always open a trade window for them to “see” it and CANCEL trade
- NEVER lend a pet to someone unless u know them really well
- NEVER let someone level ur pet – it wont be ur pet anymore

Shops – how not to get ripped off
- always check prices in the auction house to see if what you are selling/buying is near that pricing
-you can also ask for a price check in your guild or general chat.
-always weigh these things when buying selling: will the price change soon/do I need the item/ is the change the item will give really worth that much?
-always pay attention to color of shop and word buying/selling over the shop – buying = yellow selling=blue
-remember to double check ur prices when selling before you open the shop

Selling and Buying shops

Selling and Buying shops

auction house
-compare to other prices
-compare to shops in town
- DO NOT buy it now if you are the high bidder = do you still lose that first bid?
-remember when putting something in ah to look at the # you are selling and adjust the price accordingly

NPC
-ALWAYS double check ur selling list when NPCing items – dont npc that tamed kenta by accident!
-always ask yourself if you would gain more by donating to altar and getting holy water -> drops

Pets
taming
- remember to ask a tamer to see his card
- always ask if tamer “x” is trustworthy in shout
- remember to take a screenshot before you finalize trade to give him ur card
trading
- do not be shy about asking for a picture of pets skils over email
- make sure the OB is there like they say it is
- ALWAYS double check prices

Skill cards
- if you see a shop on trainee island do NOT sell to it – most are ripoffs
- if on trainee island wait to sell card until you get off island and then check in ah/shops
- the expensive cards are:
creature taming
summon creature
smite
cleric bless cards
huna buff cards
minor healing
empty orc, yeti, siren, red pixie, blue pixie, skeleton, hawk, salamander, kentauros, angel, dragon, cerberus

there are others

remember that a lot of us like to help people new to the game so feel free to ask for help, just dont beg

hope this helps

answers to questions to gms from players – part 2

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 2:23 am

here is part 2.

- courtesy if itoki

Tonight we have the dramatic finale of our GM Answers epic mini-series!

Thank you to everyone who submitted questions, and our sincere apologies to the people who asked questions that we were unable to answer. We hope to make this a regular feature, so look for a new Ask A GM! in the near future.

And now on to the questions!

———————————————————————————–

bourbonjim13

Is it true that in Epic 5 pet buffs (S/W, Torts Pdef etc) will be only useable on the Player controlling the pet?

Pet buffs are being changed to a “Unity” system where each pet gets a toggle buff that is shared between the pet and its master. So pets will no longer have targetable buffs they can use on other players.

nsanetrinity

Can you post details on upcoming pet skills such as the ‘unity’ system that will be new to Epic 5?

Not yet. We will hopefully be able to do a more in-depth preview soon.

asahigo

Will Arrow of Fire Pillar ever be fixed?

nFlavor has informed us that it is fixed. If you encounter this bug again, please make sure you report it to rappelzbugs@gala-net.com

najevi

Does Gala-Net have the ability to monitor in-game activity and so have access to actual data on such things as:
• number of PK events (outside the arena) per day
• histogram of level difference for those PK events
• player shop transactions
• distribution of price per item
I am not asking you to publish the data I just want to know if you look at such data.

We can find all of this information through our logs. However, in most cases we would have to interpret information that comes from multiple sources.

dylanjohnk

Will there be any usage of the decorative slots soon? (wings, beards etc)

We haven’t heard of any plans to use these for anything but event decorations, such as Christmas outfits.

tmol4u

Why are bad people that kill people on SS not banned?

It’s for a couple of different reasons, including the fact that it would be incredibly vulnerable to exploits. Want to grief someone and then get them banned when they retaliate? Pop a Stamina Saver. We don’t want to encourage this type of behavior.

aeneas3

Will the areas that are dead areas for click to move be cleaned up for E5?

As far as I know the pathfinding is not getting updated in Epic 5. If there are particular problem areas (aside from Palmir Plateau) let us know and we can see if it’s possible to clean up a bit.

Is there a target level that you guys suggest before we enter the new dungeon?

The enemies just inside the front door range from about 125 to 130. The minimum level to enter depends on how hardcore you are. ;)

wildheart325

Is it true pets will lose evasion? All pets will just get hit like a tank pet? (even if they weren’t meant to tank?)

A couple of pets will still have evasion passives. Also, some will have accuracy debuffs, which accomplish essentially the same thing.

black88

Is the new Island open for everyone or is there a level limit?

Characters of any level will be able to enter the island and the dungeon. What your level 2 stepper is going to accomplish there, on the other hand….

ateli

Is there any word at all about the Harpy pet being added sometime in E5? Same for the Ent and Unicorn, (and possibly Green Pixie.)

There may be more pets added later in Epic 5. We do not have any specifics as to which pets that might include.

st4g3

Will we be getting additional quickslot bars, especially once third jobs come out?

We don’t know of any plans to increase the amount of quickslots available. We will request this if the community feels like it’s needed.

Will we ever have interaction between servers?

Our servers are not structured to support this. We may hold “server competition” style events in the future, but we currently do not have any planned.

What will happen to the players/pets when a char is using a high lvl pet?

Pets will suffer a stat penalty when on a lower level character, same as they do now.

zerorsw

Are there plans for allowing better controls, key remapping or gamepad support?

We have no plans for any changes to the controls in the immediate future.

josexo

Is it true that the R4 rare ring called “Tornado of Soul” (+20 wisdom) is not dropping anymore because the name is the same as the R5 2h Axe?

Possibly. The ring’s name is getting changed in Epic 5, so it will no longer be a concern.

rovertrekrap

What is a VGG?

A Volunteer Game Guide. They were volunteers who had limited powers and were meant to help out the community when the GMs weren’t on duty. This program didn’t work out so well for reasons mentioned in last week’s episode.

nnomad

Will the new island have channels to cope with the mass of players in the 115+ range waiting for it?

The new island will not have multiple channels. We can look into getting more channels added if it turns out to be necessary.

Will R6 lvl 150 remain the game’s rank and level limit?

There are no plans to raise the level limit or add another rank at the moment.

peoplesmario

There’s been some rumour around that empty dragons only drop in the new dungeon. This true? Do the dragons outside it drop ‘em too?

White dragon cards will only drop in the new dungeon.

dtsmith94

Do GMs buff people?

No.

y6u7i8o9

Will there be detailed pet information created by the GMs for when Epic 5 part one is released on the US website?

We plan to do this around launch time. We want there to be more official documentation regarding this kind of info.

Will there be detailed character skill information created by the GMs for when Epic 5 part two is released on the US website?

Too early to say, but we’d like to do this as well.

Can we have an updated class distribution chart in the community center at the release of Epic 5?

Yes, we can do this. Please remind us. )

Should we be expecting minor or major changes to character classes in Epic 5 part two such as what is happening to pets?

The current plan is for tweaking and rebalancing, not a wholesale change to the system like what is happening with pets. If Third Jobs come in Epic 5 Part 2 they will probably just add onto the current classes, rather than completely reworking them like when Second Jobs were introduced.

Due to some of the upcoming changes to pets weapon units it seems that 2 handed maces and staffs are going to be in even greater demand than before. Are the drop tables going to be changed to reflect this new demand?

Not as far as we know. If the pet weapon changes exacerbate the mace and staff problem we will see what we can do to alleviate it.

Why is the Cerberus getting wound lick?

It’s got three tongues. I’d hope it could lick its wounds.

And most importantly what do you guys feed the moon rabbits when you give them their weekly break during maintenance?

Moon pies, of course!

manarix

Why are you withholding Epic 5 Part 1?

We’re not. It’s not ready for release. There are some pretty gruesome bugs that need to be fixed before we can release it. That’s all there is to it.

eris682

Is there a way to turn off the weather? If so how?

Open up your Option Settings, click the Game Play tab, and slide the Weather Effect slider all the way to the left side. Some features, like the day/night cycle, cannot be turned off.

darkknight2001

Is it possible to have GM’s go through each town or “protected” zones once or twice a weekend to kick rupee spammers?

We already do this. We also ban them and every account associated with them.

xenanne

I have one question: I would like to know when we will be able to see the threat level in our character ability.

We have no plans to implement this. Managing threat is part of the core PVE gameplay of Rappelz.

The following player questions were answered directly by Tanda:

asahigo

Is there a tentative release date for the new website yet?

It is about 2/3 done. There are several website projects right now so it might be another couple months. We will consider posting a preview ahead of time.

mattwindu42

Any way you can release any statistics about Rappelz, like the servers, player base, PKs, highest levels, anything like this?

Some of this information we can release, most of the information is confidential so we are unable to release it.

pjeff7

Now this was a while ago so please bear with me. I remember hearing or reading something about E5 having a blacksmith or armor tool or something along those lines. It was a while ago so I don’t know too much about it, just wondering if that got axed or if I’m thinking of something else.

Sorry, I’m not sure what you are talking about.

evil_bunny

There was a cow suit and a cat suit …
a) Will they ever be buyable in CS?

We can do this if there is a large enough demand for these items.

b) I want a bunny suit T_T will there ever be one?

Possibly.

deathsreign

Do they have any intention to bring Ancient Element of Strike back to CS or even making them dropped items? I would even be happy with events that give out AES and AED.

In-order to get the upgrade to the e-protect powders we had to give up these items. The developers were extremely concerned about balance and this was the compromise. There is a slight possibility of seeing these items occasionally in events.

useroid

Regarding Guilds and Alliances, will we ever have features like a Guild bank, Guild message system, Guild member ranks and Alliance chat? If yes, which ones and when?

Guild ranks, perks, levels and alliance chat have all been requested to the developers. They will not consider any new changes until E5 is done. There is just too much left to do to think about new things.

suhnkan

Given that the drop tables seem pretty hardcore at R5 and R6, do you guys think that maybe you can ask the developers to alter the drop tables slightly?

We do not think the drop tables are ideal either.

rogton

Is it true that in open beta of this game, a vote was taken and the vast majority of people wanted to play on servers where PKing wasn’t allowed? If so, why was this changed? (no control over the matter? like the logout timer? )

I do not recall such a vote. We requested a pure PvE option before we went live, but this request was rejected. PvP is a significant part of Rappelz.

y6u7i8o9

How is the Armory System coming along?

It is being delayed because of the website and other projects.

I’ve read that other versions are getting or have gotten repeatable quests and higher level quests. Will this be true of our version too?

I am sorry, but I’m not sure what you are referring to as I do not remember hearing this. We will continue to get new quests and content.

tmol4u

Are we getting the mouse card event like they had in China and Germany?

It is possible.

jan100

Why are there R5 and R6-Cloaks in the database since E2 but we are getting them in E4 and E5?

There are many incomplete, old, and useless items in the database. Some of them are placeholders for future items. Some were placeholders then forgotten as plans for items were changed.

Will the new mount (Qilin) be HV-/CS-only or will you be able to buy them like ornithos in Horizon, Rondo, etc?

I think it will be CS only. I am not 100% sure though.

st4g3

When will we have better servers?

The servers are generally overpowered for the task they are asked to do. I do hope to get a hardware upgrade this fall though. We will see what happens with that.

manarix

Are you considering offering players a monthly subscription in exchange for reduced (I can dream, free?) gPotato prices?

We have been, and are considering a Premium account system. This is always something we have wanted to do but have never gotten around to doing.

answers to questions for gms from players – part 1

In gaming on July 26, 2008 at 2:20 am

here is the first batch of answers of questions asked by players, posted by the gms on the rappelz site, and posted here for easy finding

- courtesy of itoki

“Today we have answers to many of your questions, but unfortunately due to the large volume of questions we received we are not able to answer nearly all of them today. Many of the questions regarding upcoming content, in particular, we need to ask nFlavor about directly.

We will have another batch of answers for you during next week’s maintenance. Hopefully we will be able to answer all of the rest of them at that time.

Without further ado, here is round 1 of Answers from a GM!

————————————————————————-

s0lapancak3

Will there be a public or invited test server for epic 5?

Yes.

Will there be any changes to enchanting items or skill cards?

Not as far as we know.

totophe64

How are drops calculated?

We cannot discuss drop rates, taming rates, enchanting rates, and gas prices. These are all things that we do not have information on.

Edit (Tanda): This is a little off. We DO have information on drops, rates, etc. But it is our company’s policy to not discuss this information, sorry.

sadisticsatyr

Are you (GMs) able to make changes to text in the game (item descriptions/skill names, etc) without the assistance of nFlavor?

We can make text changes ourselves, yes. This is what we did with the large text update earlier this year. We hope to release the new content in Epic 5 with proper English text.

Edit (Tanda): We can do most text changes ourselves but it is not very easy for us to do so without nFlavor’s help.

bourbonjim13

Are you planning to implement server transfers in the future?

This is something that we have been exploring. If we do decide to do something like this, we’ll announce it.

Is there any sort of level limit on the new dungeons that are implemented in Epic 5?

There are currently no level limits on dungeons in Epic 5.

Edit (Tanda): I think this was asking about the announced change where one copy of each dungeon will have level limits.

Are broken class skills (eg: Assassins’ Cross Block) being looked at and are there plans to fix these?

Yes, hopefully these will be addressed in Epic 5 Part 2.

nsanetrinity

Did you seriously up the drop rate for the July 4th event? Does the ‘drop rate increase’ include anything other than scrolls and pots?

Yes.

Edit (Tanda): Increasing the drop rate does not alter the drop tables. Increased drop rate will mean more trash drops along with more good drops.

zinj

Got any teaser stuff about the Third Job change?

We do not yet have any information regarding third job changes.

Are the servers going to be put on some kind of monthly rotation? (As it seems to be now)

We will continue rotating servers based on the server’s population. It’s not on a strict schedule.

gevo12321

What exactly does luck affect?

Luck only affects your critical ratio. It has no effects on drop rates, taming, or enchanting.

Will Rappelz ever incorporate WASD controls or will the movement of characters always be determined by a mouse click?

There are no plans to implement WASD controls into Rappelz

asahigo

What are those signs in the ground next to the NPCs for?

This is one of the great mysteries of Rappelz.

Are there plans to allow players to view a pet’s available JP during trades?

If not in-game, the upcoming Armory website will do this.

vaar

How many lvl (ranks) of GM are there? And what is each rank allowed to do? Are they game specific or are they to be involved in more than one gpot game or all games? (Purely curious )

Just like Rappelz, there are 6 ranks of GMs. Ranging from Uber-Noob R1 Shubei to the Almighty R6 Tanda. All the Rappelz GMs currently only work on Rappelz.

In the near future could we see any scheduled GM Events taking place on different servers?

Definitely.

Have the GMs thought of GM events that have some story telling (to build on the quest storyline) leading to treasure hunts or event quests?

Unfortunately, we are not able to change the game, so it’s difficult for us to implement events like this.

Edit (Tanda): We would love to tie in the game’s story with events more. We have tried to do this with various levels of success in the past. Unfortunately, it is rather hard to run events in-game.

Do the game mechanics allow for GMs to become super bosses, move the permanent super bosses from dungeons to other parts of the game world map, change the size of mobs and allow GMs to morph into them?

There are limits to even a GM’s powers.

Edit (Tanda): Lies

Will Epic 5 part 1 be put on hold until Epic 5 part 2 so that both are released together for balanced game play?

We have this option, but this will not be done unless absolutely necessary.

Is there any training given to GMs on in-game behaviour and in the conducting of events?

Yes, we are highly trained professionals. Each GM has their own personality, and we don’t discourage them from being themselves. Obviously, there is a code of conduct that all GMs are expected to follow.

Edit (Tanda): The first thing a new GM learns is how to appropriately communicate and interact with players. This is extremely important and is the first thing stressed to new GMs.

Is there any way we can give feedback on GMs after they make their presence felt in the game? If not, would you consider a mechanism in the near future for this to be implemented?

Yes, you can e-mail Rappelz@gala-net.com with feedback regarding the GMs, both positive and negative.

unholymessiah

Do any of the GM’s actually play the game in their free time, not including Shubei since we know that you have?

Yes. Of course, we are not allowed to reveal our secret identities.

pker4321

How can I get hired as a GM?

GMs are a paid position with Gala-Net, Inc. You must live in California and be able to commute to our office in Sunnyvale, California. If you meet these requirements, please go to the Careers section of our website at http://www.gala-net.com

slartibart

Is there any possibility of naming one of the E5 weapons “Grabthar’s Hammer”?

I’ll do what I can.

_drennan_

If you have access to the drop tables and are allowed to give out such information, could a GM please verify if the following rare rings may appear as drops in the game or if they have only been given out as event rewards? A “yes, they drop”/”no, they don’t” type of answer would be sufficient. [...]

Flawless (R2), Perfectionist (R3), Idealist(?) (R4)

Another question regarding these rings: I have seen screenshots of Flawless and Perfectionist and they share the same icon. Is it the same for the R4 one which I have never seen?

This information is needed to complete the table of rings on the player-run Rappelz Wiki (rappelz.wikia.com). Thanks in advance.

If you’ve never seen them in the game they probably are no longer in the drop tables. We don’t know exactly what’s in the drop tables.

Edit (Tanda): We do have the drop tables. But they are very large and complex. It is not something you can just print out and use as a reference.

junkroom

For creature card drop, is it all mobs from the same species have a chance of dropping the card or there is 1 particular mob that will drop it? As an example, if i’m farming for an orc card, do all orcs have a chance to drop the card, or is there a specific orc (e.g Crude Orc) that will drop it?

All creatures of a particular type have a chance to drop the card. This will change in Epic 5, however, as White Dragon cards will only drop in the new dungeon. Also, other creatures will have a chance to drop pet cards. We will announce more details later.

jasonhili

Will the prices for upgrading items, weapons, armour, and teleporting stay the same?

Most likely.

evil_bunny

Will you change skill cards back to the way they were in Epic 3, where they had a detailed description of what they did and no hidden benefits?

Skills themselves will give better information. Skill card descriptions have not yet been improved, though.

deathsreign

GMs how do you spawn stuff?

Magic.

GMs can you do a supermob boss event, like bringing the big dead scorpion in the desert back to life and sending it on a rampage? Then we have to kill it.

We could, but then you wouldn’t have anything to look forward to.

What’s the whole list of things I can accomplish to complete the achievements. I know there are hidden achievements, what are they?

All of the currently available achievements are known. We are looking into adding more achievements in the future.

makadon

Q: Will GMs post a sticky thread in the Dark Magician Forum
“What are the issues for your class? ” same as Tanda Did for Striders?

Sure.

monastir

Has the skill card enchantment rate been reduced?

Enchantment rates have not been changed.

dylanjohnk

GM Itoki, why do you act mean to bluescreen?

Because his tears taste so sweet.

What’s a qilin?

It’s a mythical Chinese beast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qilin

You think we will ever see Pure/Link versions of r3, r4, r5 and r6 armor?

There will be some new armors in E5 for the various ranks, but they will not be called Pure or Link.

What are some of the GMs’ favourite console games of all time?

Grimli: Suikoden; Loonie: Tecmo Bowl; Shubei: Final Fantasy 7; tehlaw: Earthbound; Itoki: Chrono Trigger. Everyone else: Rappelz (console edition).

taben9jake

Who are you guys, and what happened to the normal GMs?

Who are you, and what happened to the normal players?

Any new music coming out?

We don’t know of any plans for new music soon.

How are you, is the weather nice in “place”?

It’s a hundred degrees.

grianne

Will you change experience, pet XP, drop, or enchantment rates in Epic 5?

There are no plans to change these at this time.

useroid

When we get 3rd Jobs, will there be a character reset, like we had with 2nd jobs? And when will 3rd jobs be?

It’s too early for us to know how it will work.

kelaros

Will the intriguing Ent that lakedaemon posted a picture of so long ago ever appear in the game as a tameable pet?

We hope so.

wraith48076

Will you change it so you can upgrade equipment at the blacksmith without having it equipped?

That’s a good idea. We’ve suggested this to nFlavor.

Edit (Tanda): We do like this idea. It is something we requested last year. But this change would require a lot of work on nFlavor’s side because of how the equipment upgrade is currently implemented.

velascatheamazon

In the public cemetery of wolha there is a little almost triangular shaped place with a big tree on it where the mobs don’t go. On one side there is a low little altar with a statue on it. Is that statue supposed to be anyone? A god?

It’s a statue of tehlaw. Actual size.

In reality, much of the world of Rappelz has intentionally been left obscured by nFlavor. You can use your imagination as to who it might represent.

Do the other GMs ever go into Tanda? Does Tanda ever go to the other servers? Does Tanda ever go to Tanda? I’m from Lydian so I don’t know.

No, Tanda is very protective of his or her server.

rogton

Is there some place where I can download a “Carebear” version of Rappelz?

http://flyff.gpotato.com/

Are there any plans by the GMs to take a more hands-on approach towards in-game activities? ie. cursing, arguments in shout, unruly actions, etc.

Unfortunately, it’s impossible for us to be on all servers at all times and monitoring all situations. However, if someone is reported we will investigate.

Why would this game be rated for 16 and over if the game cards marketed at Target specifically say for 13 and over in the fine print on the back? What would the point be for a 13 year old to be able to buy the card but not play the game?

Rappelz has not been rated by the ESRB. This has nothing to do with the game’s rating but instead has to do with federal law regarding Internet transactions.

Will VGGs ever be seen in game again?

No. This program was discontinued because these players were being harassed and they did not have the power to address players’ issues.

rad1an7

Do the GMs or the American players have any control over what will happen in the future of Rappelz? Or is it done all by the Korean developers?

Yes, we have influence, but there are multiple localizations of Rappelz and all regions have different priorities. It is difficult for a developer to meet everybody’s demand.

darkage664

Is Tanda a guy or girl?

This is one of the great mysteries of the Rappelz universe.”

A timed decorative santa hat
A timed decorative santa suit

I have not gotten any permanent items yet.

The Dungeon Party Basics Guide

In gaming on July 20, 2008 at 1:04 pm

So I wanted to make a guide on dungeon partying. Everyone has their own tips but I will post what I think can help people new to the game. Although classes can have many roles, I will add what roles classes usually have….

Dungeon party
A dungeon party is a group of players who are together in a party to accomplish a goal in a dungeon.
There are different reasons to party
- similar level characters party to gain experience, items, etc.

- high levels party with lower levels to help with quests, usually boss quests

Primal DarkstarsBR party from Yeti Server video above.

- fun – sometimes you party in dungeons for fun and do crazy stuff

The Dungeon Party
Parties can consist of any player classes of any levels of any number but usually standards exist for xp/jp/leveling type parties. I will ignore high level pets because they are NOT standard.
the usual 8 player party
- 8 is max, max damage, max killing speed if all players are decent
the quad
- 4 players together as a quad to get good xp at decent spots that spawn a limited number of mobz but fast (3 mob areas in pp etc)
- 3 players as a trio – see above
- 2 players as a duo – see above – usually involve good pets

Party abbreviations
see the abreviation post for more
dp = dungeon party
lf = look for
dplf = dungeon party look for
lfdp = looking for dungeon party
mobz = your enemies, monsters, mobs
dd = damage dealer
tank = someone with high health who can take most of the brunt of the mobz anger
puller = someone who brings mobz to the party to be killed
ss = stamina saver (double xp/jp)

Party class roles
1. the healers
- cleric type character as primary healer – note that 2 healers is not always needed…
- kahuna types as a secondary healer for the most part
- the breeder types – heal pets
2. the buffers
- the kahuna type – buffs are great for parties and used to be standard but now that the rebirths have plagued the servers kahuna types are not always available
- the cleric type – well since clerics are standard for parties in my mind, so are their buffs. (wisdom and intelligence are not useless)
- the dark magician type – buffs are great but not essential
- the battle summoner – at high levels the auras make pets stronger – not essential but helpful at high levels
- soul breeder – buffs for pets are nice but not essential
3. the tank
- at lower levels I still think a good holy warrior is the true tank but at higher levels usually these can tank
- holy warrior / knight / soldier – the true tanks – essential at low levels
- the evoker – high damade + hp = decent tank
- the assasin – can tank at higher levels
- the champion – can tank at higher levels
4. the damage dealer – dd
- i think any class can be a dd but if i want a true dd I look for warrior class
- warriors are not essential so any class can be put here
5. the puller
- any class can pull
- be nice and if you are not healing or dual summoning or tanking, pull
- any class can cast cancel to pull, use low level chips, or use an r1 bow
- a puller class type (bow class) is not essential because any one should pull

The Must Have members:
1. cleric type as primary healer
2. someone to tank, preferably a holy warrior/knight/soldier unless r4+
3. someone to pull – does not matter who – just not a healer or dual summoner
4. everything else can be filled as per your desires

My ideal party at r2/r3
1. cleric type
2. kahuna type
3. holy warrior type
4. whomever
5. whomever
6. whomever
7. whomever
8. whomever

My ideal party at r4/r5
1. cleric type
2. kahuna type
3. holy warrior type tank
4. dark magician type
5. battle summoner
6. soul breeder
7. evoker/champ/assassin/holy warrior type #2/bs #2/bow type
8. any other except healer #2 or kahuna #2
- more pet classes if they use their level or higher pets are good

Party basics
- be patient, parties fill )
- be nice and if you cannot stay an hour and people are likely to use SS say so before the party gets going
- if you are in a party and find you have to go before SS is up and you have a little bit of time, shout for a replacement and tell your party
- if you will need to go away from the PC a lot during the party, tell them or DON’T PARTY that time
- if you have to go afk for a short time tell the party and if they ask you to log, be nice and do it
- bring your own supplies – pots, scrolls, ss, wind pots
- wait for all party members to be present to run into dungeon together unless someone says do not wait – dungeons are dangerous without buffs
- pay attention in the party – if you would rather watch a movie then farm and watch, do not party
- bring chips – everyone gets lak – bring the chips people agree on. if you normally use soul, bring force or luna anyway – everyone should donate ~ 100 chips per hour
- ANYONE can pull – even a cleric type can pull if you have more than one. even a tank type can pull if u have more than one. pet classes who are dual summoning should not be made to pull. the lowest lvl dd could pull if he does the least damage
- Do not use Fear or Head Breaker unless absolutely essential. i.e. save the healer.
- Do not use pet skills on a boss, this often has the effect of taking agro from the tank and creating chaos.
- Use luna chips on boss mobs, this gives everyone the chance to do maximum damage.
- Before using/leveling a low level pet in a dp, ask if other members of the party are ok with it.
- If you die in a dp, don’t abuse the healer, they are usually doing the best they can. Remember, if they don’t heal and other members of the party die, they will usually die too.
- Watch the healers mana, scroll when needed, don’t wait to be asked.
- Assassins generally make the better boss pullers, the hide skill allows them to lose the adds easily while the tank takes the boss. It is quicker to hide rather than log.
- Sometimes chippers need help, if you’re attacking a mob and it’s not chipped, chip it if you have the chips.

Remember these are more generalizations about what usually is the case. i know cms can tank, it just doesnt usually happen.

Rappelz – the races and classes

In gaming on July 18, 2008 at 3:47 pm

Rappelz has three races based on Creation, Earth, and Destruction. Each of the races at 3 basic job or character types – warrior, magician, and pet-class or summoner.

The Races

The races determine what classes you can be. All classes within a race share skills and the first job.

1. Asura - the dark race from the dark gods or destruction. They usually use shade magic and are blessed with speed, agility, evasion, and quick attacks. Their home is Katan.
asura

2. Gaia – the humans or from the Earth. They work closely with nature and have elemental based attacks. Their home is Horizen.
Gaia
3. Deva – the light race from the good gods or Creation. They use holy magic. Their home is Laksy.
deva
The classes and jobs

The basic job class types are pet class, warrior, and magician.

Asura

The Asura first job is the Stepper.

Once you reach level 10 and job level 10 you can pick your second job.

1. Asura warrior – the Strider

The asura warrior excels in rapid damage and evasion. Although you can level all of the skills, there are two basic skill tracks to prepare for your 3rd job. Use a crossbow to become a ranged warrior or use swords/dirks or dual swords to become a close ranged Asura warrior.

2. Asura magician – the Dark Magician

The Asura magician excels in dark magic. They can deal good damage and curse or debuff their enemies.

3. Asura pet class – the Sorcerer

The Asura pet class is the Sorcerer. Sorcerers have an excellent blend of offensive magic spells, pet skills, and pet buffing skills (to buff is to give an enhancing spell).

Gaia

The Gaia first class is the Rogue.

Once you reach level 10 and joblevel 10 you can pick your second job.

1. Gaia warrrior – the Fighter

The Fighter excels in damage dealing. They also have more health than Striders. Similar to Striders, you can level all the skills or chose to level longbow skills for ranged combat or axe skills for close combat. You can dual-wield axes.

2. Gaia magician – the Kahuna

The Kahuna excels in elemental magic and is a secondary healer. They have elemental magic that does offensive damage and that can buff or enhance targets (pets or players.) Kahunas are highly desired for parties because of this buffing ability.

3. Gaia pet class – the Spellsinger

The Spellsinger is the pet class of the Gaia. They have pet leveling skills as well as self-buff and pet-buffing skills.

Deva

The Deva first class is the guid.

Once you reach level 10 and joblevel 10 you can pick your second job.

1. Deva warrior – the Holy Warrior

The Holy Warrior is the tank class of the game because they are a blend of high health, high defense, and good damage output. They are often in high demand for parties because during the 2nd job they are the games only true tank.

2. Deva magician – the Cleric

The cleric is the magian of the deva and specializes in healing spells and does have some damage dealing spells as well. They are able to buff pets and party members and as a result are a requisite party member.

3. Deva pet class – the Breeder

The breeder is the deva pet class. They have pet leveling skills, pet buffs, and pet enhancing skills. They also have some self-buffs and offensive magic.

Rappelz Introduction

In gaming on July 18, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Rappelz is a huge multiplayer online role playing fantasy game that is created in Korea and published by a US company gala-net. It has gone thru various small changes and some large changes thru “Epics.” Currently we are in Epic IV “Revolution” and Epic V is coming to the USA soon. Now is an exciting time to join the game as soon the game will be relatively new for everyone. Of course you will not lose your character with the change in Epic.

The MMORPG game type

An MMORPG game is a massive online game in which players create characters that interact with other players characters. It is a role-playing game during which your character completes quests and kills monsters in order to earn experience and gold. In Rappelz there is also the job point system. This system allows you to spend these JP to acquire or increase the level of skills. You get xp and jp when you kill enemies or do quests but if you die you only lose experience. As a result, they are not always linked which can create interested opportunities. Kill enemies, gain experience and job points, learn new or perfect skills, earn gold to buy or increase the effectiveness of your current experience. This is the heart of an RPG. On rappelz you also have a great community of players and character interactions to help you enjoy your online experience.

The Servers

You can join any of servers. You cannot move characters between servers right now. I would pick a server based on if you know people on one server so that they can help you. Pantera is the player vs player server where there are special player-kill rules. I love Yeti because that is my server.

The Servers

The Servers

The Races

Stay tuned for my next post on the Races and classes of the game.

Rappelz is a fun, free multiplayer game to spend time online. Often thru playing you get to know people and it can be a fun experience. IMHO, it is the best MMORPG that is free online right now.

Trainee Island FAQ

In gaming on July 14, 2008 at 9:32 pm

For brand new players.
foreword:
I recommend you read the choosing a class, newbie guide, rappelz faq, and pet guides threads for information pertaining to those areas before you read this. Or, read this and plow thru – I plowed thru without any guides like most do.
I also recommend that when you chose a server you pick one on which friends play – it is always good for dungeon parties or hopefully free stuff :)

The start of the game:
After the annoying long but nice cut scene (hit esc to bypass) you start at a spot according to your race. If this is your first character, skip the next paragraph.
If this is not your first character, I recommend running to the warehouse in the middle of the island and taking any r1 equipment you can use from prior characters AND money AND pets. Pets make trainee island very easy – even a bp can do damage well enough to make things easier. Run back for the quests and skip the next paragraph.

As this is your first character, you have no equipment that is stored unless a friend will give you some on trainee island. If so, run to him :) and run back.  This first area is easy. Just do the quests. You want to kill only enough monsters to fulfill the quests because they give low experience and are a waste of time to kill just for xp/jp. For jp expenditure I would spend JP on skills that are needed for quests. I would then spend JP to raise your joblevel until you can get creature control level 1 and creature summoning and recall.  You will need to level the other skills later anyway. You will likely NOT have creature summoning before you finish the quests and have to run to the center of the island. Skip the next paragraph.

This first area is easy especially with good equipment. Just do the quests. You want to kill only enough monsters to fulfill the quests because they give low experience. For jp expenditure I would spend JP on skills that are needed for quests. I would then spend JP to raise your joblevel until you can get creature control level 1 and creature summoning and recall. This way if you have a high level pet you can summon then ASAP. I often will send my pet after one creature and kill another. This DOUBLES your kill rate/xp aquisition/jp aquisition.

Now you are in the center of the island. If you do not have equipment from friends or other characters, I would spend money at the weapon trader. The best weapon for ALL classes on trainee island, and IMHO until level 20, is a bow – either type is fine. If you are going to be a strider xbow pick an xbow, if a fighter archer pick a bow – otherwise for r1 the bow type does not matter. Since there are no important weapon skills on trainee island xbox/bow is great. It has many advantages. Chip then shoot and often monsters will be dead before they reach you. If you have a high level pet, you can kill 1 mob while the pet kills another. Before you head out, if you have the money level your bow to level 3 and your armor to level 3. Do the bow first because you will not take much damage. This will also need to be done later for a quest anyway. Do not forget arrows! Do not waste money on gloves/boots/a helmet. I also, if you do not have a pet already,  buy an empty pet card if possible. Then get the creature taming skill and tame your own pet. Always have this pet out so he can level with you and do damage as well.

ALWAYS chip monsters. Chips = fast kills = shorter time on the island. ALWAYS pick up whatever drops unless you are rich :)

I find that the above tips can let players finish the island in under an hour if not faster.

If you do not have time to level your character within a week of creating him do NOT report to Gildas after picking a job class. Otherwise you will waste the stamina tent. Save your stamina savers for later in the game.

If you need to level before you exit the island or you need jp and do not have a quest to do, kill as high level monstes as you can or kill many who are close to your level. If you kill anatema or the giant fish boss you will get great xp, as long as you survive it :)

I often stay until level 15 or 16 by the time all the quests are done . I highly recommend that you do ALL of the quests on trainee island to reap all the quest rewards such as the stamina pots.

I hope that this rapidly written guide helps. I welcome any suggestions.
